I am Omolabake Fathiat Salako, based in Lagos, Nigeria. I am currently a Board Director at the Oncology Nursing Society of Nigeria (ONSN) and also Research Associate at InnovateHealth Africa.

I am a Registered Nurse and Nurse Scientist with a background in clinical oncology and public health strategy. My work has focused on leveraging data to improve patient outcomes, and my experience spans clinical oncology research, digital health and community-led health interventions.

I am interested in pursuing the Clinical Care Delivery (CCD) track. My interest in Informatics stems from the need to bridge the gap between clinical data and real-world patient care. I believe that informatics is the key to optimizing treatment pathways and reducing the systemic burdens faced by patients. I am particularly interested in how digital health tools can be used to track patient-reported outcomes and streamline oncology workflows in resource-constrained settings.

A significant challenge in our health system is the fragmentation of patient data and the resultant time toxicity. Without integrated informatics systems, patients often face delays in diagnosis and treatment due to inefficient communication between providers and a lack of longitudinal data tracking. This disproportionately affects vulnerable populations who already struggle with health equity.

I hope to learn how to design and implement clinical decision-support systems that are specifically adapted for the Nigerian healthcare. I am also interested in gaining the technical expertise needed to transform raw clinical data into actionable insights that can drive both bedside excellence and national health policy.

Hi Omolabake,

It’s great to meet you! I really admire your background in oncology nursing and your work in leveraging data to improve patient outcomes. I also work within oncology research and data quality, so I can strongly relate to your focus on improving how data is used in clinical settings.

I’m particularly interested in your work around patient-reported outcomes. Have you had the opportunity to implement or test any digital tools in this area? I would love for us to connect and possibly collaborate on ideas around integrating data systems or developing simple digital tools to support oncology care.

Hi Omolabake,

It’s great to meet you! I noticed that we both have a background in healthcare, and I can really relate to your experience working in a clinical setting. It’s interesting how our day to day work exposes us to the gaps in data management and healthcare systems.

I’m curious, have you had any experience using electronic health records or digital tools in your workplace? If yes, how effective have they been?

I think it would be great if we could collaborate on ideas around improving patient data systems, especially in low resource settings. I’m really interested in solutions that can make documentation and information sharing more efficient.
