Dear Colleagues, Iyanuoluwa O. Ojo a Nurse

I am a nursing professional and academic affiliated with the University of Ibadan, actively involved in teaching, research, and clinical practice.


My background is rooted in nursing and public health, with experience spanning clinical care, academic instruction, and health research. My work focuses on improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes, with a growing interest in digital health innovations.

I am interested in pursuing the Digital Health Systems (DHS) track.

My interest in health informatics stems from its potential to enhance healthcare quality, streamline clinical workflows, and support data-driven decision-making in resource-limited settings.


A major challenge I observe is the limited integration and utilization of digital health technologies, which affects data management, continuity of care, and overall system efficiency.

I hope to gain practical skills in designing and implementing digital health solutions, as well as deepen my understanding of health data systems to improve healthcare delivery in my setting.

Greetings Everyone!

My name is Christiana Sunday Uboh, I am based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Nigeria.

Currently working in the Department of Anatomical Pathology, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Rivers State Nigeria.  Where I oversee the Pre-analytical phase of Histology and Cytology samples, students training, patients management and research.

I am a Public Health Practitioner with a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and presently wrapping up my Doctorate (DrPH) program in Public Health in the University of Port Harcourt.

My track of interest is the DHS. This will help me in proper data management, improved operations and research.  

My interest in Health Informatics  stems from my passion for improved  health service delivery,  training and research which are core objectives of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital as a tertiary health institution in Nigeria.

Currently, the major challenge in my health system is the use of manual health records. This has impacted adversely on patients care, service delivery and research especially retrospective, comparative and longitudinal studies.

This program will equip me with skills to build a strong and reliable electronic database system for various cancers diagnosed in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and also collaborate with other health institutions in the country to build a robust and comprehensive National Database for Cancers in Nigeria that will promote cancer research management and quality of care.

It’s great to connect with you. I noticed that we both share an interest in improving healthcare systems through digital transformation.

I’m curious—have you had any experience with developing quality systems for lab or similar systems in your setting? In my experience, user adoption can be quite challenging.

Perhaps we could collaborate on exploring strategies to improve clinician engagement with digital tools.

Greetings Purshottam! I'm glad to meet you here. 

Yes, I have experienced laboratory digital system three years ago. We adopted it in my institution then but, the major challenge initially was acceptance and willingness to learn cos many felt it was stressful and hectic. Later on, when it was made compulsory, every laboratory staff learned and applied it successfully. Unfortunately, it was not sustained, we had to return back to the manual system. 

It will be my pleasure to collaborate with you to explore those strategies to improve and sustain digitalisation of our health care.

Hi Christiana,

Nice to see you're based in Port Harcourt. I too am based in the city. And you're spot on. I have been a victim of the paper based health records here in University of Port Harcourt (although subtle and not life threatening), but it still doesn't make it any less frustrating for both the doctors and the patients.

Would be nice to collaborate and learn from each other.

Hello Christiana,

It was interesting to read your introduction. I can see that we have the same issues, despite being miles apart. In my laboratory, too, we also rely on manual records, despite implementation of a laboratory information management system some years ago. I feel that there is still so much work to be done for the pre-analytical phase.

I also noted that you were interested in cancer registry for Port Harcourt. Are you interested in a population-based cancer registry? A few years ago, I volunteered at a population-based cancer registry and I would be glad to talk more of this experience with you, especially sources of data.

I am considering the DHS track too, and it's good to know that I'm not the only one thinking that way despite being a clinician primarily. Poor integration of data across workflows seems to be a challenge that many of us can relate to. Hopefully, we'll be the ones to effect the seamless data management we have always longed for.

I am attracted to your background in teaching, research and clinical practice, knowing that whatever knowledge gained will be passed on to the upcoming generation. Having been in the academia for over ten years before venturing into full time IT, I know the heart of a teacher.
