Hi everyone,

I'm Emelike Prince, based in owerri Imo state Nigeria, I’m graduate research assistant and a medical assistant at Preserve Life Healthcare services, a Homecare service in Owerri in Imo state.

I have a Public Health foundation, I would be pursuing the clinical Care Delivery track. My interest in informatics originates from my thesis which assessed the knowledge gaps and training needs of primary healthcare workers in Imo state on Cervical cancer prevention and HPV vaccination. While on this project I observed that one of the core gaps in cancer care is lack of training of the health workers on proper data documentation and handling which leads to inconsistent data, wrong data, data loss which makes it impossible for proper policies, funding decisions and general management of cancer as a broad case. With this course I’ll be able to help in implementation of better digital systems in primary health centers and training of the primary health workers on how to scale up performances at their facilities.

Documentation is key and unfortunately a missing piece of our health records system. Digital systems may work but do we have the infrastructure?

Hi Emelike,

It’s great to meet you. I was also a graduate assistant during my master’s program, working on COVID-related projects, so I can relate to balancing research and practical work. It’s really interesting that you focused on cervical cancer prevention and HPV vaccination. This is such a critical area for women’s health, and I hope your research leads to better data, funding, and attention on this topic.

Best regards,
Janiel Johnson

I believe primary health care workers are key stakeholders in propagating digital health, especially among rural communities.

I also love your focus on digital system integration among primary health centres, especially the training aspect, as a lot of Nigerian healthcare workers have low digital readiness. This would be a great project and I'm definitely looking forward to the ripple effects it creates.
